Millionaire Mindset Training - April 29, 2011 - Florida Chapter
Students of Jacksonville Job Corps, local entrepreneurs, and those interested in bettering themselves listened intently... as Organo Gold Diamond Executive took time out of his busy schedule to share his story and give insight into how you can have a millionaire mindset now. Mr. Bean used a combination of personal experience and business acumen to take the attendees on a journey of self-evaluation. Lunch was provided courtesy of E3 Champion members Wes and Anke Deason. Mr. Bean made time for everyone in the room and even took a few extra minutes to take photos and talk one on one with E3 interns who were attending the event as a part of their professional development. "Sam was gracious, insightful, and an inspiration today", commented Anthony Butler, Executive Director, E3 Business Group, Inc. "We need more people to step up and share what works and not just critique others who have not been blessed yet with the business success they deserve." The event marked the continuing expansion of the capabilities of the E3 Center for Entrepreneurial Development .
A Dinner With...Tri Vu - April 29, 2011 (Owner, TTV Architects) - Florida Chapter
To say that Mr. Vu was impressive would be an insult. The self made success story was a font of valuable information during the fourth installment of the nationally recognized "A Dinner With..." series. Tri was joined as the distinguished guest of honor by his lovely wife Laura who brought her own unique perspective on being in business with a spouse. Time and again Mr. Vu displayed the same down to earth, common sense wit which was on display at Real Talk...Real Change II. Entrepreneurs from around the city and professionals enjoyed a meal of Chicken Alfredo, tossed salad, rolls, and the signature desserts of CK Event Hall - City Kidz Cafe. The service was impeccable and the food plentiful. Owners Sonya and Clinton Bush were gracious hosts and showed why their spot is fast becoming the place where serious business happens.
The evening began with a welcome by Sonya Bush followed by informal introductions of the guests and then a blessing by Pastor Clinton Bush. Nearly 20 entrepreneurs met and networked including fellow RTRC II panelist Rafael Alvarez and wife Marisol, Pepper Peete of the 1st Tee Foundation, Richard and Lisa Holley (Mass Mutual & Sunshyne Events), Otis Williams and Lou Demerey of American Range Traders, Tara Sinclair of Stanton Alumni Association (Class of 2001). Special acknowledgment of E3's own Honorary "Groupie" Ida Jackson and Ms. Stephanie Ecklin, Publisher of OVT Magazine who made the 2 hour drive from Daytona with her father as her first official event as an new member of the North Florida Chapter. The next 30 minutes was filled with the sounds of lively conversations and exclamations of pleasure over the catered meal.
Nearing the end of the meal an introduction of the guest of honor was made by E3 Founder Anthony M. Butler, Sr. beginning the dialogue part of the evening. It became clear quickly that the evening was going to be a memorable one as Tri Vu stated right of the bat that he "didn't prepare anything and will just say what I am thinking." Mr. Vu shared how he was raised with a mindset to work hard and to never quit. One of the most powerful statements came early on when Tri looked at his wife and said, "One thing which I did was I never missed a goal, ever." He went on to explain that sometimes it "took longer than I expected. Sometimes a year or two longer, but I never missed a goal." As the floor opened up to questions the tone became even more energized as Laura began to interject her thoughts. The two were the Ying to each other's Yang as they piggy backed comments, finished thoughts, and even challenged each other's opinions. One question which polarized the evening came from Ms. Peete, Executive Director of the 1st Tee Foundation, a local organization which uses golf to teach life skills. "How did you approach raising capital for your business?" Mr. Vu never hesitated, "The first thing we did was saved until we had enough money to survive for a year."
Mr. Vu related to all in the room and noted how he had personal challenges including an estranged relationship with his father. Laura shared her own thoughts on working as a team, creating a balance between work and family, and how she learned to make time to enjoy life. The evening seemed to end to quickly at around 8:10pm. The Vu's stayed and took photos and continued to make new friends and business connections. Gloria McNair (Duval County Health Dept) and Jewel Flournoy (War on Poverty) both commented on the experience and Ms. Jackson echoed the sentiments of many, "I should have brought my son to this, he wants to go into business."
E.D. Note: This was a remarkable evening not just because of the wonderful diversity and dialogue but it helped to bridge a gap that many entrepreneurs of color comment on. How does an Asian American seem to create such success so quickly while others struggle. The key is that it is not as quick as it seems and that there is a streak of persistence and purpose which permeates all of the actions and decisions. Although Mr. Vu was not speaking for his entire ethnicity it is clear that the mindset he developed was something shared by others in his family and culture. Add to this that he had a partner, a white American wife, who also had a mindset for success and it creates a powerful dynamic. To not worry about when a goal is met but to just concentrate on meeting it is a trait of ALL successful people. Mr. Vu gave countless examples of this mindset in his conversations and always responded to questions of "how do I get" with "I just did it...". Powerful - AMB
E3 Partners with BlueCross BlueShield of Florida to present Accuse Yourself of Success!
This innovative workshop provides youth between the ages of 12 and 16 valuable guidance in creating a mindset for success in school and their lives. The 50 minute presentation takes a look at the struggles of E3 National Executive Director Anthony "Tony" Butler who was an underachiever with a poor mindset. Mr. Butler's candid self-critique and sharing of his journey from irresponsibility to self accountability is both powerful and timely.
Three schools were selected to receive the presentation which was sponsored exclusively by BCBSF as a part of their continued commitment to families, communities, and academic achievement. Highlands Middle School (60 Attendees), Mattie V. Rutherford Alternative School (200 attendees), and Ribault Middle School (50 attendees) hosted the presentation with great success. Students and adults came away with a powerful message for change. This workshop has become one of the most popular E3 presentations and was recently endorsed by Communities in Schools, Inc. in NE Florida.

"Dear Mr. Butler,
This morning you spoke to my class (Mr. Benyard's first period). My name is Allison Bonifay and I am 15 years old. I was really inspired by your story and the corporation you helped to create. I have heard many "sermons" my teachers have given, which are meant to inspire us to succeed and make the most of our education. However, something about your story made it all seem real. It gave a new definition of success not heard in our society today; a way of achieving our goals through helping others achieve theirs. Helping others is based on kindness, generosity, and simple common courtesy, which are scarce these days and I greatly hope I could make a difference the way you do.
After visiting your web site, E3 is something different than I thought it was as you described it. A non-profit organization dedicated to helping business owners take a hold of their business and essentially reclaim their dreams and lives is a wonderful idea."
