E3 Supports The Jacksonville Birthing Project

The Jacksonville Birthing Project (JBP) is a mentoring program for women during pregnancy and for one year after the birth of their children. Volunteers and mentors give friendship, guidance, and support to an expectant mother in need both during and after pregnancy. This includes helping her find a doctor, find and use community resources, and make plans for herself and her baby. Volunteers also help by giving the mother someone to talk to and by being there for her on the phone, in the doctor’s office, or in anyway that is safe for both mother and mentor.

The project is coordinated locally by Charlotte Clark-Rowe, a strong advocate for pregnant mothers and adjunct instructor for Edward Waters College. Mrs Rowe recently accepted the position as President of the Jacksonville Chapter of the E3 Business Group, Inc. She is committed to building the Jacksonville Birthing Project into a strong resource for new and expectant mothers in NE Florida and receives the full support of the E3 Business Group, Inc. Below is more information on the program along with a "wish list". We encourage our members, supporters, and partners to consider JBP as a worthy cause in 2010.

National Mission Statement
The Jacksonville Birthing Project is part of the national program, Birthing Project USA. “Birthing Project USA is the only national African American maternal and child health program in this country. We are a volunteer effort to encourage better birth outcomes by providing practical support to women during pregnancy and for one year after the birth of their children.”

Monthly Group Meetings
Mothers meet with other pregnant women and mentors (sister ♥ friends) to share experiences and make new friends. Expecting women and mentors listen to speakers who are experts in their field about relationships, Medicaid, nutrition, breastfeeding, etc.

Please contact Jacksonville Birthing Project for meeting times, locations, and mentor trainings.
